Sometimes you have to install software on your computer but might not have a CD rom to make installing software easy like it is from the disks. When you are in this situation with a netbook or a broken drive, there are many alternatives. Find out some ways to install software so your computer will have the applications that it needs to have on it.
The easiest way today is to just download software to use on your computer. This doesn't mean that you have to pirate software from the internet. Many companies will sell you their software and give you the option of having it mailed to you on disk or giving you the option of just downloading the software. With a download you get it right now without having to worry about having a physical box around.
You can also just consider running cloud based software. These are applications that are available online that you can use many times for free. There is no installation of these needed at all. You can run things like photo editors and even full office suites.
One option is to put the installation files onto a USB or SD card and install it from there. You might have to use a different computer to get the files off the CD so that you can get it onto the portable USB device.
If you have your computers on a home network, you do have the option of using another computers CD rom drive. These drives can actually be shared over a network. This means that you can put the disk into your desktop for example and access it on your netbook. This way you can install software on that machine without having to have a CD rom connected to it.
If nothing works for you, buy an external CD rom drive that connects via USB and install software like you normally would. These are so cheap it's worth the ease of use.
